How to choose a computer

Choosing a computer doesn't have to be difficult. In fact, it can be an enjoyable experience.

Decide between a laptop or a desktop. If you're the kind of person who travels frequently, or if it is to be used at work or on the couch at home, needing the information and programs it has, then you are going to need a laptop. Otherwise, it is best to stick with a desktop.

Next step would be to think at what what you will use it for and where

For office

An office computer do not have to be very powerfull in most cases, but it has to be reliable and able to stand up to constant data changing, long hours and multiple users with little or no updates. You also want to lower your total cost of ownership with low electric usage from computers that will last for years and offer low cost upgrading options. This type of computer first of all needs a low resource consumption and this can be achieved using quality products.

For home

Home computers is the computer that you seldom use and for simple applications, and therefour you can use almost anything and be very happy with the performance. The problem lies when companies sell low priced systems targeted to your market. This is usually "to good to be true" items. There is a minimum cost for building a PC, anything less is a lot less then you want, in general outdated components that stayed too much on the shelf.

For gaming

This computer instead is a well known specific configuration, where the user knows very well for what he will use it. This PC will run the latest games and at high resolution. That is why the computer needs a lot of processing power and a high bandwidth, where power consumption and noise are neglectable. You have to be carefull when choosing the components of your system, and not to believe that a high end video card with low end components will help much.

Two important points that most do not take care of are the motherboard and the power supply. When you buy one of these you have to think also at the future upgrades, because if the power supply isn't strong enough, it will not be able to deliver the required power for the components, and your system will not work. Also before changing something inside your main unit be sure that yout motherboard can handle it properly. It manages all the components inside the unit, and the speed of the system is generally the spped of the motherboard.
